Day Eleven at Wimbledon was all about the women’s semi-finals, with Centre Court hosting two highly anticipated contests. Top seed Aryna Sabalenka faced Amanda Anisimova in a marquee matchup, followed by 2020 Olympic champion Belinda Bencic taking on world No. 8 Iga Swiatek. With all four women chasing a place in their first Wimbledon final, the day truly delivered in every way. Let’s take a look at the results now.
Centre Court- Ladies' singles (First semi-finals, 13:30pm):
Amanda Anisimova (13) defeated (1) Aryna Sabalenka.
6-4, 4-6, 6-4
Amanda Anisimova delivered a stunning performance to defeat World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in a tightly contested Wimbledon semi-final. The match was incredibly close in every department, with only a few points separating the two, Anisimova won a total of 108 points compared to Sabalenka’s 106. Despite Sabalenka’s stronger first-serve percentage, Anisimova’s resilience on second serve and crucial points made the difference. This victory marks a major milestone for the 23-year-old, as she becomes the youngest American woman to reach the Wimbledon singles final since Serena Williams in 2004. Speaking on the court after the match, Anisimova said:
"This doesn't feel real right now. Aryna is such a tough competitor. I was dying out there. She's such an incredible competitor, such an inspiration to me and so many other players. We had so many tough battles and to come on top today to get into the final at Wimbledon is incredibly special. The atmosphere was special today. I know she's number one but so many were cheering for me so I just want to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone."
Anisimova now awaits the winner of the second semifinal clash between Belinda Bencic and Iga Swiatek.
